Enrichment programs for adults focus on better sleep, fitness and more

Posted

Sleep disorders significantly affect our waking lives and overall health. How well do you sleep? Are you tired all the time? Do you snore, gasp for breath, and wake up during the night? These could be signs of a sleep disorder which, if left untreated, might lead to serious health issues such as heart disease, high blood pressure and stroke.

If you want to know more, come to North Regional Library at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 and attend Better Sleep!, the second program in our Exploring Health Care Options series. Join us as a Registered Sleep Technologist from Cape Fear Valley Health System discusses the importance of sleep. Learn about factors that can affect sleep quality. Bedtime habits, such as following regular sleep and wake up times, and creating a sleep-friendly environment, are important elements that help you fall asleep and stay asleep. Better sleep can improve our mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, which gives us the energy and temperament to deal with challenges.

The Better Sleep! program will also cover basic information on serious sleep disorders like sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and narcolepsy. If you have questions about these disorders or other sleep-related topics, the Better Sleep program at North Regional Library is your chance to get answers.

North Regional Library also offers programs for your enrichment. Exercise is important to maintain muscle mass, bone density, flexibility and general wellbeing. The Chair Fitness program at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, will offer a full-body workout from the comfort of your chair.

Want a program that is both mentally and socially stimulating? Bridge is a card game that employs logic, reasoning, concentration, memory and social skills. North Regional offers Beginners’ Bridge, a program that teaches newcomers the card game but welcomes players of all levels. This ongoing program is offered the first and third Thursdays of each month from 1 to 4 p.m.

If your interests lean towards crafts and needlework, North Regional offers Crafty Needles Club at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23. Bring one of your projects to the library and work on it while meeting and socializing with fellow crafters.

North Regional Library is located at 855 McArthur Road in Fayetteville. The phone number is 910-483-7727, ext. 1436.

Each library branch offers programs for children, teens, and adults. Check out our calendar of events on the website. You can sort selections by age group, library branch and program type. If you prefer, pick up a printed calendar on you next visit.
