FAYETTEVILLE CITY COUNCIL

Council to hold hearing on Cedar Creek Road development zoning, annexation

Posted

The Fayetteville City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Here’s what’s on the agenda:

• Cedar Creek Road development zoning: The council will hold a public hearing on whether to approve a request from Cedar Creek Road LLC to rezone 27.72 acres on Cedar Creek Road from rural residential and single-family residential to mixed-residential, for the purposes of building a large apartment complex there.

CityView reported on neighbors’ concerns with the proposed development, including their worries that it will exacerbate flooding issues in the area and concerns about Mayor Mitch Colvin’s financial stake in the project. Colvin has said he will recuse himself from voting on Monday.

According to the meeting agenda, staff has recommended the council approve a single-family residential zoning — which is more restrictive and would require a special use permit to build the apartment complex — as opposed to Cedar Creek LLC’s requested mixed-residential zoning.

• Cedar Creek Road development annexation: Following the zoning hearing, an annexation hearing will take place, where the council will decide on whether to approve Cedar Creek Road LLC’s request to annex the property of the proposed development, which is currently unincorporated, into city limits.

• Stamper Road duplex: The council will decide whether to grant a special use permit to Rockfish Run Land and Development LLC for the purposes of building a duplex on Stamper Road. Neighbors voiced staunch opposition to the project during the rezoning case at the Feb. 26 meeting, but the council ultimately approved the rezoning in a 6-4 vote.

• Old Bunce Road townhomes: The council will decide whether to approve a special use permit request from King Model Homes Construction Company, Robert Bunce and Fayetteville Habitat for Humanity to construct 111 townhome units on the 15.43-acre site on Old Bunce Road.

• Street renaming: The council will decide on whether to rename Providence Street to JP Swinson Street as per a resident’s request.

• Employee compensation: The council will hear a brief presentation on the city’s recent and ongoing efforts to make Fayetteville an “employer of choice,” or place that candidates and employees want to work for.

The council meeting will take place at City Hall, 433 Hay Street. It will also be aired on Spectrum Cable Channel 7 and live-streamed at www.faytv.net.
