Members of the Class of 2023 of Cumberland Academy Virtual School leave a record of exceptional achievement as they transition from high school to the next part of life’s journey.
Cumberland Academy was one of four high schools in the county that held 2023 commencement on Wednesday, the fourth and final day of the district’s graduation marathon.
Ceremonies were held at the Crown Coliseum.
Over the past two weeks, the district has celebrated 17 commencements with more than 3,500 students walking across the stage to receive their diplomas, according to a news release.
Cumberland Academy Principal Tremaine Canteen told the graduates that their life is just beginning.
“Graduation is not an endpoint; it is a commencement — a beginning. It is a springboard from which you launch into the vast ocean of opportunities that lie ahead,” Canteen said. “We stand on the precipice of a world that is both challenging and full of promise. It is up to you to embrace this juncture with open minds, open hearts, and unwavering determination.
“Set the vision,” he continued. “In the face of uncertainty, be resilient. In the pursuit of your dreams, be bold. In the quest for knowledge, be lifelong learners. You are equipped with the tools necessary to make a difference in your chosen fields, to contribute to our communities, and to create a better future for all.”
