Fayetteville man arrested in weekend shooting death on Gordon Way

Posted

A Fayetteville man has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of a woman Saturday on Gordon Way.

Jaylin Sadiq McLaughlin Jr., 22, of the 3600 block of Pickerel Street, was arrested Tuesday by members of the U.S. Marshals Service and is being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center, Fayetteville police said in a release.

He is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, the Police Department said. McLaughlin is charged in the shooting death of 22-year-old Sierra Harper.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 12:45 p.m. on the 2900 block of Gordon way.

They found Harper, who had been shot multiple times, police said. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died, police said.

The homicide was not a random act, the release said. Harper and McLaughlin were known to each other, a spokesman said Wednesday. There was a disturbance prior to the shooting, he said.

The Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle that was observed leaving the scene of the shooting, Officer Jeremy  Strickland said.

The Police Department released a photo of the vehicle they are looking for. It is a gray 2015 Dodge Dart with an unknown white temporary license plate. It has red marks on both sides of the hood, Strickland said.

No other information was immediately available.

Anyone who has information regarding the vehicle is asked to contact Detective M. Waters at 910-635-4978 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-TIPS (8477).
