Laurie J (Yourous) deLeon, 64, peacefully departed this earth and gained her angel wings on July 8, 2022. She was the beloved daughter of the late Stephen J. Yourous, Sr. and Laura (Feley) Yourous. She was born on January 8, 1958, raised in North Granby, CT, and was a 1976 graduate of Granby Memorial High School.

Laurie was a 20-year veteran of the United States Navy who proudly served her country from coast to coast before retiring in 2004 as a Petty Officer First Class. Laurie had many accomplishments during her Naval career and was awarded several medals including the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. After retiring from the Navy, Laurie began her journey to further her education. She worked hard and was incredibly determined. She attended Campbell University in North Carolina where she received her Bachelor’s degree and aspired to be an early childhood educator.

She was the most loving, caring, supportive and devoted mother, grandmother, friend, and sister. Anyone who met Laurie would describe her as having a “heart of gold.” She was so genuine, thoughtful and kind. Family was always her number one, but she had many loves in life; Nascar, camping, gardening, family genealogy, the fall season, and sports. She was a loyal New England Patriots and Red Sox fan. One of her greatest loves was for animals, especially her dogs Valentine, Marley (Momo) and Bella (The Bellhop).

Laurie will watch over her daughter, Ariel Marie and son-in-law Johnny Carello of Fergus Falls, MN; her three grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly, John Joseph Carello, IV, Julian Joseph Carello, and her granddaughter, Jamison Jean Carello (who she shared her middle name with). She leaves behind her brother and sister-in-law, Michael A and Barbara Yourous and their three children Hayley, Kacey and Benjamin Yourous. As well as her former spouse Cesar A. deLeon of Spring Lake, NC. She is predeceased by her eldest brother, Stephen J Yourous, Jr.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Laurie’s life on October 10, 2022, with a visitation from 11am-1pm at Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St. Granby, CT. Laurie’s family has organized a memorial service which will include full military honors to honor her life and military service immediately following the visitation at the West Hartland Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in whichever way(s) that you wish. The family does request that any flower donations be made in yellow as it was Laurie’s favorite color.
