Board votes to zone 82.5-acre tract for residential, commercial use

Hope Mills commissioners on Monday approved a request to conditionally zone a tract annexed by the town in 2021 to allow a developer to pursue a project that would include both commercial and residential development.

Hope Mills board reviews proposal to host relocated baseball team

The Hope Mills Board of Commissioners took action on a proposal to relocate a baseball team to the town, approved a donation to the Police Department and renewed a contract for storm drain cleaning at its meeting Monday. 

A man and woman have been charged with cruelty to animals after seven horses were seized from Witts End Quarter Horses, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. The seized horses included a 3-month-old foal that “sustained felony-level injuries,” according to a news release.

A 19-year-old Hope Mills woman was found shot to death early Monday in the parking lot of a gas station on Bragg Boulevard, according to the Fayetteville Police Department. The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m. Monday at a Valero station in the 800 block of Bragg Boulevard, according to a news release.

A Hope Mills woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 8-month-old baby, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives on Monday arrested Jana Jana Gabrielle Shaw, 21, on charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
